I would love to have my long, frizzy, wavy hair straightened and am currently investigating the options for this treatment. I am aware that different salons advertise different treatments all claiming to be ?the? definitive Japanese Hair Straightening System (these include ?Ionic Hair Restructuring? (IHR), the 'Yuko System', the ?Liscio? treatment and the ?Bio Ionics? treatment).

Inevitably, every salon claims that their method is the best ? therefore leaving me none the wiser. I would be so grateful anyone could tell me (objectively if possible!) what the main differences are between these treatments (eg advantages/disadvantages) in order that I can make an informed decision.

Thank you for reading this posting. Whilst I am eager to have my hair straightened I'm also very nervous - I have long hair, and thus choosing the best method and best salon is essential to prevent me making a costly (in more ways than one) mistake. (I know "it's only hair" - but it will take a hell of long time to grow back!)

Cheers, Sarah

Hi Sarah.
I understand you are a bit confused and I'll do my best to help you make the right decision. In our salon we do the Ionic hair straightning only as we found the Yuko one very damaging. It is very difficult for me to say if it will work on your hair as I haven't seen it.We have very experienced stylists and we've done straightnings on afro hair as well.I would advice you to come to our salon for a free consultation.I have around 50 pictures of our clients you can have a look at: before and after the straightning. And we will answer all you questions. Then if you happy you can book an appointment with us or not.It will be up to you.Hope that will help you decide.

hi. am going traveling this summer and have naturally wavy/curly hair. its not too bad when i leave it to dry as its long so the curls are weighed out a bit. but it can be a bit unmanagebale and as am going to be unable to style it each day was thinking about getting it straightened. obviously dont want to damage my hair and it would need to be straight without needing to be blowdrying. is there any treatment that would just calm the waves down abit and make it a bit sleeker but wouldnt be permanent as i dont really mind it being wavy when i have time to do something with it.it doesnt have to be immaculately straight, just less frizzy. any ideas?

Hi all,

IHR / Bio-ionic
---------------
Firstly IHR and Bio-ionic are the same product just with different names. Bio-ionic is the trade mark in the US and IHR in the UK - so hopefully that helps a bit

IHR was the first permenant straightening system to encorporate a 'protector' which allowed straightening of coloured hair. Because we're ColourNation and our customers tend to have coloured hair we needed a system that could achieve this.

The results we see with IHR tend to be softer and more natural than Yuko which can be just a little stiffer on completion.

Yuko
----
Yuko at least initially could not be done on Coloured hair. They may by now have developed protectors but IHR was the first system to develop the process.

Liscio
------
Is i think a new arrival we've not seen it in action or heard customers or industry people say anything about it good or bad. So sorry can't help with it. It COULD be that it's another immitation product like Matrix which is trying to jump on the straightening band waggon (But we don't really know).

Conclusion
----------
We have hundreds of very happy customers from the IHR straightening system. We looked at all the options and the decision was clear for us. We think that if your choose us for IHR you won't be disappointed

hope it helps

Andrew

thanks that cleared up the difference a bit..still not sure, as what about when ur hair starts to regrow? if u dont want to get the treatment redone is it going to look weird when new hair grows at the roots?is there nothing less permanent that can still have the same effects without damaging the hair?

Hi there,

The IHR Straightening will straighten it not damage it (with any chemical proccess there will be some effect but for most clients you won't be able to see any difference in the condition of your hair - infact it'll probably _look_ healthier than when you came in :)

You roots will need to be redone based on how fast your hair regrows (1cm per month for most people) and your hair may not be curly immediately it grows out of your scalp so you may be able to get away without straightening longer. Some customers have waited a year or so before needing a redo.

If you decide not to redo you hair, it might look a bit weird depending on how your natural hair regrows. But you can use straightening irons each morning to minimise this as you would normally have done.

There is an alternative in L'oreal Xtenso but our advise is always the IHR it's more expensive but far more effective. It's worth the investment for the first visit and the ongoing results. Xtenso is weaker and the result will vary much more for customers, it is cheaper and quicker too.

good luck

Andrew
