Hey there,..

Well there are various ways of straightening nowadays too.

There's of course the classic afro relaxer which tends to be a bit harsh though effective.

The permanent straightenings (also known as japanese) such as the IHR which is the more natural looking on afro hair, but also the more expensive.

The Brazillian straightening which is semi permanent and so more of a relaxer will not straighten the hair entirely but makes it more manageable to straighten.

condition-wise, it might be a good idea to treat your hair with a deep moisturising treatment.

You must also keep in mind that for straightening you need a certain amount of length at least around 4 inches.

Regards,

Val

I'm a half black male, with very tight curls in my hair. I've never had my hair straightened before but I've been considering it for the past 2 years. I've heard relaxing is the best method to go for but I'm still worried I may end up regretting it. My hair is thick and not in great condition so I'm also worried about extensive damage.

Hey Nyle...

I think your answers have been answered... We are currently providing a brand new system of straightening.... It firstly is a semi-permanent straightening, so it will eventually wash off and curls go back to normal, but most of all it is a keratin based product so it is not damaging for the hair,..on the contrary - it is beneficial!

you can click on 'brazillian straightening on the top left hand corner for more info.

Regards,

Val

hey..

i have afro-caribbean hair and extremely tight corscrew curls...i've been growing them for 15-16 years and they have grown to just about shoulder blade length...i was just wondering if you have any advice on how to tame them on a regular basis ( what products to use?) and when im straightening my hair the curls always come back through and there is very little rissistance to humidity do you know any products that might increase this risistance? or tame the ends of my hair ( they always go very fuzzy even after i've had them trimmed)i don't want my hair chemically straightend as i do love my curls but sometimes they are a bit much to handle ......any ideas?

nyle x

We've found IHR hair straightening a great solution for mixed race hair.

The texture of the hair is like silk, very soft and smooth afterwards (the mixed race clients we have seen can't believe the texture and keep touching it to be sure) and you shouldn't find it getting frizzy when wet.

Hiya,

Im Mixed Race & I Have Thick Curly Hair But The Curls Are Not Too Tight & My Hair Is Strong So Im Thinking IHR Permanent Straightening Would Be A Good Option For Me.

After IHR What Exactly Would The Texture Of The Hair Be Like? Would It Be Just As Though I Had Relaxed My Hair Or Softer & More Manageable? & Also Does It Get Curly & Frizzy If It Gets Wet?

Thanks x x

Hey there,

If you would like to relax the curls, the straightening system , might be a good option, as if your hair is afro it will not give you a completely straight result, but more wavy, enabling you to style it both straight or curly/wavy.

Of course what you need to kep in mind, is whichever style you would want to go for you would need to invest time into stying it.

If you would like to discuss further, you can also e-mail us directly at covent@colournation.com

Regards,

Val

hello,
i am going to travel to london next month and I'm thinking about getting my hair done at your salon. My hair is a curly african type (even though no one in my family has african traces) but my hair is extremely hard manage and it is long but it doesn't seem that way since it shrinks i staightened sometimes but it takes too long, so I was thinking of a perm but my problem is since I live in the USA I don't know if it grows back what should I do to keep it looking good since I couldn't come to London very often. or I don't know if you don't have any other treatment where I can have curls or waves but with regular hair (not african type) please advice what should I plan on do before I arrive in London. :) thank you

Hey there,..

Well One obviously needs to be sure that they want the straightening done, It is not a procedure to be done on a whim!)
There is a eason why it is called 'permanent hair straightening',....yes, the curls do not come back! (...errmm?).... then your re-growth has to be re-touched depending on the strength of the curl.

(These are all things you should have known, before the treatment)

Regards,

Val

Nooo! Do NOT straighten. Must be the worse thing i have ever done to my hair. It got extremely damaged and won't go curly anymore at all. Now i'm havign to suffer trying to grow it back, it's half curly half straight now and looks awful. Also takes ages to grow!
Don't do it :)
