I would be very very careful. This happened to me about fifteen years ago. Basically I always had blond highlights then one day I went to another hairdresser and he said "oh would you like to try a full tint for a change". I replied well it would be nice to have a full colour but my concern is that happens if the colour you put in the highlighted hair is different to the roots colour. Oh he said it wont be a problem. Anyway, he put on the colour and my head started to burn so had to point this out to him, he then proceeded to wash off the product. I was horrified to see I had orange roots and left furious and very distressed. I remember I had to spend xmas with this awful looking hair and was most embarrassed on the train to work. Anyway when I got home I immediately rang and was told it was too soo to come back and that I should wait three weeks. Three weeks later I went back and surprise surprise the male hairdresser who did this to my hair had left the country on holiday (he incidentally was also the owner)! Well the other guy said he would try and put it right and hence plonked 30 volumne peroxide onto the roots to try and get the orange out again I had a bit of burning. Well it was rinsed off, this time the end result was yellow roots as opposed to orange. Clearly, I was still very unsatisfied so I had to go to another hairdresser and incur more expense to get it put right. Luckily this particular hairdresser in Beckenham managed to put it right and also advised me of the schwarkopf colours I should use. It does not end there as I sued my hairdresser for £350.00 damages which at the time was quite a lot. Good luck and let me know if you manage to get it put right.

Heya..

Well, like most of you on here, I have had an orange disaster! My hair is very long and very thick, but thankfully in very good condition. It is natrually a mousy/medium brown colour. For the past few years Ive been having half head weave hi-light foils, which have virtually built up to an all over multi-tonal blonde.

My regular hairdresser left my salon, and after using her for so long, I was reluctant to go to someone else. My hair grows quickly, so I have really bad roots by 6 weeks. My mom convinced me she could do an all over blonde on my roots which would match the rest of my hair.. how wrong was this! She bleached my roots last week, and after using loads of purple shampoo, they are still orangey/yellow :(

Thankfully the rest of my hair is still fine, so I can get away with wearing a hat for now. My mom rang her hairdressers to book me an appointment for colour correction and he reckons he is not sure if he will be able to do it? He says he needs to look at it first, but there is no gurantee he will be able to do anything for me.

What can I expect? :(

Hi there,..

Your problem is quite a common one.

The stylist is quite right in saying he would need to take a look at it first.

You might be able to get away with some toning, however if you need to break-up the colour at your roots, you may need some high/low-lights to break it up before d toner.

Good luck!

regards,

Val

Hi there! I have been reading everybody's comments and horror stories about orange hair, but I'm not sure what to do about my case.

My natural hair color is a dirty blonde color, but for the last 6 months it has been a dark brown. I went to the salon last week to get it lightened back up to a more natural blonde color because my roots were awful!! She did a full head of highlights (which I originally refused) leaving half of my hair still dark, and the rest of my hair a brassy orange. It was so horrible, she told me to come in a few days later to fix it. I was really upset but said okay. I went back and she proceeded to lighten up the rest of the dark hair by doing highlights again, and then my whole head was orange! I was too shy to say anything, and just left. It's really affecting my self confidence and all I want is to go back to an ash blonde once again. I have always used purple toners as I am so scared of orange, but this time it won't change a bit. Also, because she did the bottom of my head first and took so long to do the foils, the top of my hair is a ridiculous shade of brass and strands of dark brown while the underneath is light. What should I do?
I am a college student and absolutely cannot afford any more salon styling :(

Thank you!!

Hi there,..

It is a difficult one to sort out at home on your own.

I guess you could try bleaching more but I definitely wouldn't advise a D.I.Y job on that!

I reckon you'd be better off getting your money back from that salon and then get it fixed elsewhere!

Regards,

Val

had a lovely set of light ash blonde hi-lights & dark ash blonde/light ash brown low lights. But of course they grew out. Thank fully my low-lights merged with my root.

It was done by a junior technician. The blending was great wonderfully ashen and cool.

Went back to same salon. Got the senior technician. She did the back fine...but for some insane reason (tho following previous techies instructions on the computer)she made me end up with fine blended at the back and four thick chunky dark lowlights on the top.

Yes my over all colour was fine...but she obviuosly got too quick applying at the front...slap-dash. And didnt weave it fine enough.

So what did I do? Well the next week I got a diff salon to bleach up the dark stripes. But I think a mixture of my virgin roots and the fact she neither put it on long enough nor toned it. It's strawberry blonde/orange at the roots with a gold blonde thru the lengths.
Not TOO bad but in obviuos contrast to the rest of my cool hair. I'm going back to original colourist (the junior) I expect to get scolded.

But am I unrealistic to expect her to weave fine low lights back in to tone the orange out?

Hey there,..

Hi Can anyone help me??ok ill try to make this quick.
in around last year 2008 in the mid of November, I had this insane idea to to a semi-permanent or a rinse in my dark blonde-light brown hair because i am never happy with myself. The hairdresser i had for about 2months said i should go this brown colour, i agreed but i had a feeling it would try out horrible. My hairdresser left to go shoping and promised to come back in time. She was late. My hair came out a Dark Dark Browny/red. I was shocked and my hairdresser knew it. She rang back in a week and I asked her if it will fade. She said Yes but it wont be the same. She also said it would last 3months. I could believe it because i actually wanted a rinse in the first place and i asked for it. Its been 5months know. Ive lost heaps of my hair and the colours faded but its still got this orangey tint/strick to it. Im so upset and ive just about drived my mum insane. Ive been using Pantene Blonde Expressions Shampoo and it seems to have taken some of the orange/red away. Its more of a golden brown.
Im gonna go to a different hairdreser, one i had before her.
Im getting my hair cut soon and im unsure if i should ask her to fix it for me because It has already faded alot in 5months.
I want the orange out but i dont want to go darker, i want to go lighter if anything and im scared my hair will fall out again.
what should i do?
Should i get a purple shampoo will that take the orange out completey?without having to dye it?
