Hey guys,....

you are forgetting one important thong in hair colouring,...it is not a general rule for eveyone, as it all depends on the hair you are working on for starters.

For example asian and caucasian hair is totally different.

The orange bleach spots should never happen anyway, it's about how close one gets to the roots, especially with bleach as the material tends to expand yu should not go straight to the root.

If this occurs, it is ideal to directly dye (like painting, with a small brush) back to the natural color.

regards,

ps. wel done with keeping the forum vry much alive..

Val

Hi All,

There’s been a lot of discussion about orange hair and how best to deal with it. I’ve tried here to give you a brief overview of how best to tackle and solve the problem.

Here’s some things you should consider:-

1. Stay calm – your natural impulse may be to run out to the shops and buy something to colour over the orange. Don’t! First take some deep breaths, and read the following information thoroughly. Where possible we would recommend that once things have gone wrong you a) go to a professional salon (like us) to get it fixed and b) understand that ‘fixing’ may not be colour shade accurate ie. You can expect the salon to get you to brown say, but you have to allow a little flexibility in the shade of brown.
2. Remember that each time you colour your hair you can damage it, especially at home. If your colour has gone wrong once you’re better off trying to fix it professionally than risk it going wrong again and needing another colouring to fix it (three attempts). It could cost you more in the long run and leave you with badly damaged hair trying DIY.
3. That said Home Colour is a big market and many people do colour at home successfully – but I guess when things go wrong call in the professionals.
4. Ok so you if you have decided to proceed, consider how light or dark the orange is? Eg is it dark blonde, dark brown etc.
5. What tone of orange is it? Yellow Orange, orange, red orange etc
6. Next we have to consider the correct base and tone needed to correct the orange.
• Yellow Orange will need a violet or grey tone
• Orange will need a blue or grey tone
• Orange Red will need a blue or possibly green tone
• Red Orange will need a green tone
7. Please note that certain tones work well with certain base shades and the correct developer – I guess this is the art of a good Colourist.
8. If you call a salon for help, remember that the stylist can’t see you so they can only guess at what will be needed based on your description, which may be inaccurate because you may not be able to explain in technical terms what your hair is like.
9. Always choose a colourist that has been highly recommended. Colour Correction is not easy and an inexperienced stylist could do just as much damage or more than you can do at home.
10. Make sure a thorough consultation is given and that both of you are happy with the course of action. Watch how confident and assured your stylist is in explaining the steps necessary to recover your hair.
11. Tint won’t lift tint. If the colour is too dark a bleach may be needed to lighten the colour before re-colouring.
12. You may have to make some decisions in consultation with your stylist. For example a semi-tint is the kindest correction method but it may not be able to achieve the exact target colour you want. The target colour may be possible but might require some bleach as above to lighten and this could cause some further damage to your hair – do you want to take that risk?

I really hope this has been helpful to anyone who finds themselves in this situation. If I was unclear on anything let me know and if you’d like to book in for a professional opinion please feel free to book a free consultation with me on 0207 836 8883.

Thanks (and Good Luck)

Did you see this at nymag.com? A decoding of deliberately orange hair in movies thought y'all'd be interested...

Closer, Natalie Portman
Character: Stripper, provocateur, tourist.
Crayola Hue: Blood orange (also, pink).
Roots? Yes.
Orange Alert! Breakdown, ennui.
Orange, Decoded: Closer’s final shot frames Portman beneath a sign for Thoroughly Modern Millie. Like Millie’s Jazz Age bob, Portman’s jagged do symbolizes her liberated (post)modernity.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Kate Winslet
Character: Strange, forgetful girlfriend.
Crayola Hue: Clementine orange, “Agent Orange” (also, “Blue Ruin”).
Roots? Yes.
Orange Alert! Heartbreak, amnesia.
Orange, Decoded: Winslet’s hair is as multilayered, multicolored, and in flux as the film’s depiction of memory—and, indeed, is a visual cue for the criss-crossing narrative. “I apply my personality in a paste,” says Clementine. “You?”

Run, Lola, Run, Franka Potente
Character: Concerned girlfriend, Olympic-caliber runner.
Crayola Hue: Toxic orange.
Roots? No.
Orange Alert! Boyfriend killed (in two of three film scenarios).
Orange, Decoded: Like the techno tracks underscoring her run, Potente’s superhero hair enhances the formal intensity of the film and amplifies its futuristic flash—while singling her out in crowd shots, like the red overcoat in Schindler’s List.

Pieces of April, Katie Holmes
Character: Another nice girl on the Lower East Side.
Crayola Hue: St. Marks orange.
Roots? Yes.
Orange Alert! Mother has terminal cancer.
Orange, Decoded: Holmes’s sloppy, halfhearted dye job—the most realistic of the batch—jibes with her character’s postadolescent pull away from, and back toward, her family: i.e., her roots.

The Fifth Element, Milla Jovovich
Character: The perfect being, and a world-destroying weapon.
Crayola Hue: Alien orange.
Roots? No.
Orange Alert! All life forms in the galaxy are nearly exterminated.
Orange, Decoded: Luc Besson cast Jovovich, the studio blurb booms, as “a perfect beauty, a perfect being, a perfect weapon.” In space, orange is perfect!

firstly u need to be carful for next time cause over bleaching your can damage your hair so need to use lots of treatment on your hair regulary. u need to not colour your hair for at least 4weeks, due to the high intensity of bleaching and colouring your hair.i personally think you should use a dark blonde or meduium light brown toner depending how darker you want to go. i would recommend you buy the dia wella colour product which puts more shine into the hair. You can get it from salon supplier you can check it out on the sallys website. good luck

I bleached my hair this weekend with Blondissima and then tried a L'Oreal kit that was a light brown (it was called coconut or something) with highlights. After I did it, my hair was blonde/orange! I immediately went out and bought a blonde colour (Feria), coloured my hair again and it was still orange! So last night I tried again with another shade of Feria... it was a caramel light brown (still had highlights in it) and my hair is slightly better, but still "orange"! I asked my daughter this morning (6 years old), "what colour is mommy's hair" and she said "orange". So should I go and get an "ash" blonde/brown? My natural colour is a light golden brown and does have some red in it.

Hey there...

yeah , an ash tone is certainly a better option for you,

since you already have red tones in your hair, it wasn;t a good idea to go for a warm brown when you put the colour,...

after the ash toner, you might want to use L'Oreal silver shampoo to cut out more of the red tones on a regular basis.

good luck\!

Val

also...

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!

don;t try to bleach your hair again,..the consition would suffer loads, and most of all, feria are metallic colours, and you could get a chemical reaction with the bleach.

Regards,

Val
