Hey there,

What you really need is to have a light graduation with the clippers when they are doing the sides and back.

They would need to start with something like a grade 2 or 3, go down to a one round the bottom bit (ears) and then blend all together with scissors.

You can even call it a military sort of cut.

Regards,

Val

Hello, I was looking for a place to post and ask this question, I am happy with my haircut 50 percent of the time, the others i blame on me not properly explaining it.

SO i thought I would post on here since i know nothing about haircutting and just moved to a new city so i will be seeing someone knew.

Their is a picture attached the only picture i have handy even though its not good, I am not a fan of cameras.

My issue is my hair gets really thick and grows out on the sides and back. I find that typically hairdressers seem to only buzz the bottem part of my hair, then trim the rest. I dont like this, My sides are very long i have a very long head and i like a square haircut. I want my sides to be even up and down. Usually though they dont want to shave all the way, occasionally I get ok results if they really blend it in. But many times within a week the part that is not buzzed grows way out and is longer then the bottem. And i hate it.

So how exactly do i explain this, when i say i want it shaved high up on the sides its usually met with them wanting to do it. I had a hairdresser do it awhile ago and i really liked it.

Anyway two photos attached, sorry their not the best, one is shown of my hair and when I liked a haircut the other I drew in a black line typically how high hairdressers around here will shave it and then use the scissor the rest of the way up, and then again in a week the part not shaved will be to bulky and stick out and i loose the nice square even look i have on the sides.

Hey there,

I take it you are talking about the sweeping fringe here, as that is teh common characteristic in those pics.

From the little I can see from your pic, you might need to make the fringe thicker so it falls better onto your forehead.

Wherever you go, I would take pics with me

Regards,

Val

Hey there,

Firstly of course I'd say if you can do it professinally go for that option.

If you decide to go ahead withthe bleaching YOu can perhaops go ahead with the gingery bits, and the roots, however to bleach all the hair would probably not be too wise!

Don't forget that the ashy tones from the shampoo do fade anyway and won;t need a bleach for that.

To make sure you don;t get more ash tones I would try using the shampoo on the freshly bleached roots only to get an even ashy colour.

If you then want to tone down the ash, go for a golden toner to counteract the grey tinge.

Happy D-I-Y,

Regards,

Val

Hey there,

When one starts receeding at the temples, it is always important to keep the sides nice and short, as this will detract from creating focus on the thinning area.

The top can then be textured to create a balance between the back and the front.

Another option with the top would be to keep the front short and then having more length (but textured) around the crown creating a sharper and edgier look.

Regards,

Val

Bleach/Toner Problems...Hair Went From Yellow to Grey
G_Anonymous
I've been dying my hair dark brown for the last few years and my natural colour is a medium brown. In September '09 I decided I'd try out light brown hair for a change so I bleached it until it went ginger then added the light brown dye after that. It still looked quite brassy from the bleach so I got sick of that and I decided in late Nov/early Dec '09 that I wanted to go blonde. I knew it wasn't going to be a quick or cheap process and my training allowance did not allow me to afford to have my hair done professionally so (you guessed it!) I decided to do a D.I.Y job. When I first bleached it, it turned ginger with the odd blonde tinge to it here and there, as expected. I left it two weeks to recover and when I bleached it again, it went yellow and ginger, as expected. I bleached it again a week later and it was still yellowy with some ginger underneath (which I did NOT expect, I thought that'd be me blonde at this point) but a little lighter. After this, for the sake of not damaging my hair for nothing, I decided to buy a very light blonde hair DYE and a Lee Stafford (or something like that) toner shampoo in the hope that this would once and for all make my hair blonde. After using these two products, my hair did look far less brassy but it still wasn't blonde (a yellowish tone still remained and there is still gingery colours underneath). I've not done anything to it since other than use the toner shampoo once a week. However, a few days ago when I was washing my hair, I left the toner in for 10-15 minutes as opposed to the usual 5 and now my hair looks ashy and grey, very dull with the odd brassy blonde slice here and there. Now that my roots are growing through again I was wondering what would happen if I bleached my hair now? I was planning on starting at the underneath section of my hair (the most ginger and darkest blonde hair) and working my way up before finishing on the roots. My hair is thick and seems to be taking to the harsh treatment a lot better than everyone's expected and is still growing as quick as ever thankfully. It's been 3 weeks since I dyed it with the light blonde colour. Thanks for taking the time to read this....bloody essay! **Oh, and please do not recommend I go see a hairdresser because, as much as I wish I could, I cannot afford it as I don't even get a training allowance anymore as I've finished studying my NVQ - I'm currently looking for work :( **
