Hey there,

To get to lighter tones you would definitely need to strip it wether with a stripper or bleach.. after which you would of course need to top it up with the new colour.

What you do need to keep in mind,..once you strip the hair you are bound to have red tones, so aiming for an ash brown is not very realistic I'm afraid...

Going lighter gradually might be a better solution, so moving to a golden/choclate brown first and then slowly go lighter, perhaps even by adding high-lights...

You also need to keeo in mind that if teh is a huge difference between the lighter and darker bits, they might need to be treated differently, rather than slapping the bleach on.... I definitely wouldn;t dare trying to do this without professional help!

Regards.

Val

Hey there,

It sounds like those platinum bits are so out of pigment that the brown continues to fade out.

To be frank it is quite normal, you would need to top it up on a regular basis to get the match to your natural.

The idea of putting high-lights back in all dpends firstly if you actually do fancy the blonde (?)

If you do, it should not be a problem,..however I would definitely do it professionally considering your past experience!

Regards,

Val

Hey Sam,

In fact you do not have a long face, and your face shape can support quite a few hairstyles!

you could opt for the textured look, going shorter back and sides and creating texture on top (of course going a bit shorter than your current style), top that with a messy matt wax.... Think Ewan McGregor, Brad Pitt (circa teh movie Seven)

Or you could opt for the indie boy look, whereby you would need to grow the top into a longer floppy fringe leaving the top quite heavy, and go clipper shaved-short on teh back and sides.

Regards,

Val

Hi there,

You definitely can go shorter on the back and sides, however I would keep some length on top, and add lots of texture to create height, which would work much better for your face shape rather than having it flat.

Finish it off with a matt wax for a messy textured look.

Regards,

Val

Hi there,..

The best way would be to compromise and go for both.

Have both high-lights as well as low-lights, which will give you more depth in colour,... your choice of tones in excellent...you'll totally rock the look!

Regards,

Val

Colour stripping
G_joey@barnes.us.com
Hi,

I have dyed my hair myself for quite a long time and as such it is quite dry and dark now - saturated with colour I think!

I would like to return it to a more natural colour (medium ash brown) and would like advice if possible please on the best thing to do! I have heard of a product called ColourB4 which strips out the dye so I can dye it again without it being too dark.

The colour I have used mostly up to now is Nice'N'Easy Natural Medium Brown and the last time I dyed it I used XXL Violet, so it is now a faded red tone on top and a very dark brown on the bottom half.

Any advice would be very gratefully received!

With kind thanks in advance,
Jo

Highlights ???

I have naturally a dark ash blonde hair colour for years i bleached it blonder and damaged my hair to the point it was falling out so stopped applying the bleach and have been growing it out in order for the roots to then match, the rest of the platinum blonde hair i had it dyed brown professionally however a month later the dye hasn't taken to my hair at all it was a permanent dye but my roots are my natural colour and about 4 inches at the bottom is really blonde despite dying it quite a dark brown it hasn't worked, every time i try and dye my hair brown it just ends up looking blonde , i have tried doing it myself as well and brown hair dye just will not take to my hair. I have decided that maybe rather than trying to fight the blonde to highlight the rest of my hair so the blonde ends don't look so bad but am worried about undoing my efforts to grow it all out by damaging it. Will highlighting my hair damage it all again?
